Leave the thing alone. Twice I have tried disconnecting it and the only result was that MPG DROPPED by 4 or 5mpg. They work fine just the way they are, and any supposed benefits to disconnecting it (i.e., less smoke, better mpg) are just speculation. If it isn't causing any problems, why do you want to disconnect it?
