Also, wouldn't it be great if there was a subforum or something with a thread for each model listing all its known problems and popular performance mods? Sorry if this has been suggested before. I'm not lazy, but it just seems that I keep coming across more and more information about this car by accident. It would be nice to have a place to go to make sure I haven't missed anything.

I had a similar situation with my daughter's jetta water pump. It was repaired by the dealer then failed after 13 months. The dealer warranty was for 1 year but they took care of it as a warranty repair anyway. At 1yr plus 3 days maybe you can still get the shop to repair it as a warranty job.
