The fluid is originally red like any other ATF. Now, if you ever actually SEE the fluid,it would surprise you, it does get quite black and appears dirty. The clutch material has graphite in it, so this is only an appearance problem. MB has no recommendation for the fluid change (filled for life), I would probably go much longer than a normal transmission fluid interval, 125,00-150,000, somewhere along there.
