Rough Start

Hello all,
I have a 1985 300SD with appx. 215,000 miles. When I start the car after sitting for a few hours it runs very rough, if I give it a little pedal it smooths out and runs fine. It is almost impossible to start with the AC running, as well as some recent cooler mornings.

The valves are in adjustment and the fuel filters recently changed. I was thinking maybe the GP but the light seems to be functioning fine, could one or two still be bad?

Also, on a side note, I noticed a small piece of metal that looks almost like a bolt, loosely hanging on a bracket near the alternator. It has been rubbing on the belt closest to the engine block (not sure which one). The end is shiny from where it has been rubbing so it is hard to tell if something has broken off. Does anyone know what this could be from my crude description?

Sorry for the long post, thanks for the help!
