With the retail cost of cell phones these days, that could easily rise to felony destruction of property in some states. And yes, I would be happy to file civil and criminal charges against the teacher is incident was real. He has the right to control his class and if need be, eject and one who does not follow his/school rules. He has no right to touch anyone or their property. The law does not stop at his classroom door. As to a first day stunt to get his point across, I'd want to change classes. If that's all the better teacher he is, I don't expect to really learn much.
