The 4-speed auto (from an aluminum-block V8) won't swap directly on because the bellhousing is much bigger on the cast block. I would TRY to adapt it if I were you, though. MAYBE the bellhousings can be swapped? I have never heard of this done.

If your 1-2 upshift is also very delayed, it could be that your kickdown switch has a short in it.
