Do we know for sure that a regular StarTac will not work with the MB installation kit on the 2000 E class? I noticed that the installation kit and the MB StarTac are sold separately although the dealer insists that the two will only work together.

Together as a package at US$1300+installation, the setup totally cost prohibitive but if there is a better solution that will work with the in-dash/steering wheel control buttons, please share!
