I was going through the archives and spotted this thread.
Anyway, when I received my airfilter from RENNTech, I think they reused a box to pack my airfilter. Among the things I found in there were:
(1) A Ron Davis Racing Radiators sticker; and
(2) A 'warning' page from Ron Davis, which I'm quoting below, verbatim, as it seems interesting:
WARNING
DO NOT RUIN YOUR NEW ALUMINUM RADIATOR BY IMPROPER
FILLING!!
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOUR ENGINE BE COMPLETELY
FULL OF WATER AT ALL TIMES. ALUMINUM RADIATORS MUST
NOT BE SUBJECT TO THE PRESSURE SURGEST THAT RESULT
FROM AIR POCKETS IN THE ENGINE. WHEN AIR SURROUNDS A
CYLINDER OR AREA NEXT TO A COMBUSTION CHAMBER, THE
METAL BECOMES VERY HOT. WHEN THE WATER CIRCULATES
AND COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE HOT METAL, A VOLUME OF
STEAM IS PRODUCED THAT IS LARGER IN PRESSURE THEN (sic) THE
CAP CAN RELEASE. THE RESULTING PRESSURE BULGES THE
TUBES IN THE RADIATOR AND GREATLY REDUCES THE AIR
FLOW AND COOLING CAPACITY. IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO
RAISE THE FRONT OF THE CAR WHEN FILLING THE COOLING
SYSTEM TO GET ALL THE AIR OUT.
WE ALSO RECOMMEND ATTACHING A GROUND STRAP OR
CABLE TO THE RADIATOR TO HELP KEEP ELECTROLYSIS TO A
MINIMUM.
BE SURE AND COMPLETELY FLUSH THE BLOCK AND HOSES TO
KEEP ANY FOREIGN MATTER OUT OF THE RADIATOR THAT
COULD CREATE A HOLE IN THE RADIATOR DO (sic) TO
ELECTROLYSIS.
Copied everything word for word. The sics were mine to indicate the errors were entirely theirs.
