I started out majoring in mechanical engineering...lost interest around my senior year (dumb), gathered up my credits, and pursued a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science. It was already going to take 5 years to complete the engineering requirements, but I added 2 1/2 years to that making the switch.
Despite the 4-year curriculum demonstrated in the catalog, there is no shame in taking an extra year to complete. The core classes offered in your junior and senior year are rigorous! The course offerings seem about the same as I remember when I did the deal (25 years ago)
, except our computer-based assignments were handed in decks of keypunch cards!
Typically you get the non-major crap out of the way in your freshman/sophmore years...hence the english/humanities requirements. After that, you pretty much live in the engineering buildings for the rest of your college career.
Political Science/Engineering? Pretty polarized majors imho...can't really blend many classes, so a double major in this case would require 6 years with an 18-hour load each semester (including summers), or a clone...
btw...if you plan on taking a 14 -16+ hours/semester load in the engineering scenario, kiss your social life good bye!
