yep, i think the fact that both lights are not working tells me the problem is more proximal than distal. but like you mention this is no easy task to pinpoint where the problem is exactly..

i'll check the fuse box below the steering wheel. i checked the fusebox next to the batteyr last night but couldnt find one for the sidemarker lights there.
