I am flat-footed. Expensive shoes that have good arch support (and all that other fancy foot-pampering technology) actually hurt my feet.
I'm more comfortable in the cheap sneakers.
Fortunately, I also prefer the look of them. Expensive athletic-style shoes with all the colors and stripes and logos and all that crap on them just don't do it for me. Too gaudy and over-done. I prefer more tasteful, simply-styled shoes.
I must admit that I have spent money on high-$$ hiking shoes, and some other nice-looking shoes and boots from time to time.
But I usually prefer the less-expensive footwear, for both comfort and style reasons.
