The encapsulation panel reduces engine noise and keeps road grime out of the engine compartment. Last week I took a 1995 E320 with a missing encapsulation panel for a PPI ... various components in the engine compartment were corroded from a steady dose of road salt. Needless to say I passed on that purchase.
