The recruiter is going to promise you (its in this thread already) that you will be "really close" to a batchelors degree -
While I can't say that he's wrong, I can offer a few insights there
1) I was in school for 4 years (I didnt want to get a mail-order degree, I wanted to go to school and party dammit =)
2) The services ARE getting in bed with big name colleges to make it easier to get degrees just from military schooling, but whatever credits you get, none will be in 300-level english, 400-level anything (senior classes), no liberal arts classes (music/art/fine arts appreciateion).
So IF you want to get a BS degree, it'd take more than a year - maybe a year if you found a program (regents college of new york - big name tossed around when I was in) and took only all the classes you need.
when I got to school, I found out about things like "prerequisties" and "a normal college would rather make you take courses and get your money that give you credits just for throwing paper at them. maybe this has changed, but getting a BS from being a nuke was not easy in my case. (I still did it and loved it though, SE Ohio (athens, OU, where I started school) is great motorcycle country =)
On another note - the Jury is still out on the future of Nuclear plants in this country - I think that more and more people are realizing that we need more electricity, and the cost of running a coal plant is going up. Or maybe the anti-nuclear hippies are dying off, in either case, there *might* be a future in commerical nuclear power stations in this country (if we were smart there would be). I wouldnt totally write the idea off, but I don't have statistics (peer reviewed for Bot =) to back that up.
