Question a Turbo Diesel in an SL?

y'all think it would be possible to put the 5 cyl Turbo Diesel (617.952) into a SL from the same era (around 82)

I Know that there were 280SL's and 280E's, surely they wouldn't use drastically different mounting locations for the same engine, and since there were also 300D's of the same chassis (w123) then maybe the engine mounts might line up somewhat

The only problem I see (heh, only problem is an understatement) is that the 617 motor is pretty tall and it might not fit under the hood of the SL.

a 300SLD would be really sweet, we'd get the best of both worlds, a stylish convertible with one of the best engines, the only down side is the Automatic, and the DOT bumpers (I can stand em on the sedans, but they ruin the look of the SL) but one thing at a time

I really shoulda been a engineer for MB

EDIT: yes this was brought up from the talk of the 240D engine in a Vette, but I did have the idea a while ago, just never thought about it in detail
