If you are a DIY like alot of us here you may find some helpful information in the "DIY Links by Parts Catagory" section.
From the home page of MercedesShop.com arrow down a bit until you see the section I just mentioned above. Then arrow down and click on Steering. There is a section describing steering box clunk. And another one about the adjustment nut. Also check the link about steering coupler.

I am pretty much a novice myself. But with the help of the guys here, some providing step by step pictures, I was able to change my own steering box.

If you decide to do this and have the tools to do it, I recommend ToolSource.com for the proper Pitman Arm puller. *************** (Rusty's) for a new steering coupling. ************** for the most reasonable prices on powersteering hoses and powersteering filter, and most importantly, CarSteering.com for the rebuilt steeringbox.
I found them on Ebay and got the box for $299. Otherwise from their website the box is $329. (The rebuilt box comes already centered) There was a refundable $150 core deposit that was added to the price, and I added $12.00 for a prepaid return label.
The box will be mailed to your door (free ship) and you have 90 days to return the rebuildable core.Good luck
