It is a trade off to have computer monitored oil level, but it can also be a good thing, all of us dieselers here would of course like a dipstick, (including me) and MB should have put one on the engine, however, the majority of MB owners (who are buying the new cars) don't want to get their Armani suit dirty, and would probably never think of checking it anyways. Its better in that case for the computer to alert them if there is a problem.

If the computer sensor is reliable (which it probably is)...then its no issue. I'd still want a dipstick though.

Also, on the subject of tranny, I thought MB stopped using "sealed for life" transmissions a little while ago because of longevity issues?
