Ok, ok!! I'm convinced. I just ran outside, threw away my dipstick and epoxied over the hole.
Just gonna use the idiot light from now on.
Whew, one less thing to worry about!

For me, a large part of the fun of owning machines is getting my hands dirty messing with them. Ever since I can remember, I've loved working with my hands. Something very fulfilling to me to hear a once-dead machine roar back to life, or the solution to a particularly vexing component problem become aparent (after the swearing and wrench throwing subsides).
For a while I drove a 1950 Chevy coupe. You could keep that thing running with bailing wire, duct tape and a paper clip
I can't imagine owning a car that prevented me working on it. Don't know what I'll do when all the older iron ages away.
To each their own for sure. I know tons more people than not who are attracted to maintainence-free vehicles. I reckon we who love to tinker are in the minority.
