That's the fun of shooting sports. You can go and sample and goof around (all with safety paramount of course) with your buddies and in the end, a good time was had by all. I actually like the XD in principle and my best buddy is looking at them. One of these days I may actually get to handle one. Like the others say, rent or borrow before you buy. The fit and "shootability" of a pistol is very important and, like shoes, it's different for different people. And, worst case, you buy one and it doesn't grow on you. There is always a market for good used pistols and you shouldn't lose much money on the deal if the gun is relatively new and in great shape.
