I've used K&N filters for years too and can tell you from the oil samples I used to do that they did no harm to the engine. My silicon levels were always low as well as all other wear metals. As soon as the paper filter gets dirty enough in my wifes E320, I'll be replacing it with either an airhog or K&N.
