They are self adjusting hydraulic. Sometimes synthetic oil helps the ticking and sometimes it takes a couple of thousand miles to hear the difference. Make sure the tension shock dampner and belts and pulley are in good shape. They definately can cause unwanted noise if they are not up to snuff.

Also on next oil change make sure the o-rings on the shaft that goes all the way down into the filter are good or just replace them. Sometimes that gives better oil pressure to the top of the motor.
