Yes a recall but worded craftily as "supplemental document". I can't post a picture of what the piece of paper looks like. I am at work right now. I will post a pic later if anyone wants to PM me. I do not know how to post a pic but I'll figure it out.
I think it is plain luck, don't know which years are affected but the trap is still made out of ceramic and that is why it doesn't last. MBZ recommended it be replaced at 30,000 mile intervals meaning every 30,000? And that was my question to the service rep that led up to a free replacement!! The rest of the story is just a I first wrote. I didn't expect to get a turbo out of it but if the trap oxidizer is messed up enough, then the turbo will be damaged too. I guess my trap was pretty messed up. I asked the guy why MBZ can't make the trap out of something stronger than ceramic and he replied that they stick to the technology of that model 300D's time. That doesn't make financial sense to me but MBZ does OK without my advice.
Now everyone, go to your Mercedes glove box and see if Santa left something good for you! It is a small, light blue paper that is folded.
Post if you found a surprise! If you have a '85 300D turbo, you might get lucky too!
