Thorneycroft engine...hand cranking...back in 1967...engine valve depressors set.....two people on the handle.....engine coughed...started running backward...I was knocked over in their rush to get clear...flywheel exploded and demolished the cab and put a 3 inch divot in the tarmac.
Forward two years....big Diamond Reo towing disabled GUY Warrior....got up to 25 miles per.....Guy operators foot slipped off clutch pedal......Guy operator lost his foot just under the knee....
Apparently, the Guy operator had the truck in 1st gear....good for about 6 mph max.
Engine was a Gardner Diesel 6LXB I think...only saw the result when towed into the yard.
Those where the dayz....and we LIKED it !
