Hopefully the title of this thread got everyone's attention! lol
My 1990 300ce doors are starting to reflect the car's age. They were sagging, so I went ahead and adjusted the hinges and striker plates so that they align properly. Of course, this means that I had to adjust the windows as well... They were rolling up to high.
So I followed the service manual's instructions, which says to loosen the following two nuts, which limit the upward travel of the window (after removing the door panel, of course).
No problem there. The problem occurred when I tried to tighten the damn things. I really didnt exert much pressure, but I broke the bolt clear off of the first one. I was pissed at myself, but I really didn't think it should've broken.
So then I was even more cautious when I tried to tighten the other bolt. This is the part where the "idiot" thing comes in. I sheered the other bolt in half too! I couldn't believe it!
Here is a pic of the parts that I broke:
So, that leads me to my question. As you can see on one of the units in the pic above, the bolt that broke is welded onto the back of the L-bracket. These brackets do not have part numbers on them. Is there any hope for me to find replacements?
Thanks for reading. I may have to try and salvage some from the junk yard...
