Can you or your mechanic do a fuel volume check? You need to unhook the fuel return line and rig it so it squirts into a container. Then pull the fuel pump relay and jumper 30 to 87, or just run 12V to the fuel pump with a jumper. You should see something like .5 liter in 30 seconds. If you don't get that volume, then look for a clogged tank strainer or fuel filter.

Is it possible to get the tank strainer w/o putting the car on a lift? I've worked around the fuel pump on my SE without one but it sits higher. I know the old fiter was totally plugged so the screen may be as well. At this point I'm not really expecting to fix it but it'd be nice to send it out to my specialist with a narrower list of things for them to look for, my time may not be free but it sure is a hell of a lot cheaper
