Tom,

There is a considerable difference between a 'chronically infected prostate' and prostate cancer. The former you can treat with antibiotics and the latter must be treated with surgery.

The first thing my urologist did when he saw my elevated psa number was start me on a 30 day course of antibiotics to treat prostatitus, an infected prostate. When the number didn't go down he did a biopsy. That is when he found the cancer.

The tv is full of ads for drugs to treat enlarged prostates. It seems to be an older man's fate to suffer from it. The feeling of having to go all the time and then not being able to go when you get there is a common malady of age. I must admit that a side effect of having my prostate out is that I can now piss like kid. I dribble a bit like an old man but I piss like a kid. It was not a fun way to get my pressure back but it is interesting.
