The engine shocks do nothing but damper vibrations during shutdown. The mounts absorb all of the vibrations during idle and if they are collapsed all of the extra energy goes into the engine and everything that's attached to it...on the OM606 it is the belt tensioner that can suffer...but on the older ones the air filter housing mounts do take a beating when the engine shakes and it is not uncommon to see those break due to the extra stress.
