If you don't already have it, download ad-aware (Lavasoft) and Spybot S&D (safer networking), and run both. (with S&D you have to not only check for immunization but also actually immunize once it says that addtl. immunizations are possible).
If you see no difference at all, then I think it would be a good idea to upgrade the RAM - do it yourself - make sure you have a spare slot for it, or swap the existing 512 module for a 1G module.
