Good idea. You’ll need the extra 100/150 hp to be able to “obtain an average 61 mph over the entire 2900 mile route.” Not to mention that last 270 mile drive with everyone else into LA.

Did you not understand: “A target time has been set for each stage of the event (achievable without breaking the speed limits), and the winner of the event will be the drivers of the car that get the closest overall time.”

Skip the radar detector. Get the CB for those periods when you’re bored out of your mind. And get yourself a nice clock, and a GPS or two.

I have to wonder what and where these are too:
“The winner of The Great American Run, in addition to claiming the coveted world title, will also win a brand new 500bhp car.”
-and-
“...at a prestigious LA venue.”

If you just want to blow through the course like it’s really a race. Leave NY on the 2nd or 3rd. Save the 10k for gas and bail.
