Usually on the bottom of the resevoir there is a hard plastic shaft that has a rubber ring that 'pops' in the hole in the wheel well. The only damage I have heard anyone suffering is applying sideways pressure and cracking or breaking it off. Easing it out with different kinds of upward pressure works. Slow, steady patient force works with just about everything.
