I just recently had to make a backup copy of my only door/ignition key for my 1987 260E. That costed me almost $40 at the dealer. I am wondering if its really true that only 2 places in the world (Germany & US) can make these keys. Isn't there any local locksmith with a laser cutting key duplicator around? I mean they want to make money right? Demand and supply theory suggests that a smart locksmith would try to invest in one of these machines.
