I'm still not sure that the head is unrecoverable.

It depends if you want 6 working glow plugs. If you don't want to buy a new head, I would simply weld shut no.3 glow plug hole on both sides. It shouldn't matter if you've drilled into a cooling cavity, it should still work perfectly well.
