I negotiated the purchase for another car. Now I just have to figure out how to get it home. I wish this had been listed four months ago when I was looking for parts to repair my 85 300D. For a W123 the condition of this car is bit of a flip of a coin. My current plan is that it is a parts car. But at the same time I think that this one could be make road safe four under $400 in parts. If this were a W116 300SD or a W115 diesel model in this condition I would definitely be looking at this car for one to be refurbished.
