Geez Larry, you must have had a Texas-sized tailwind to reach 100MPH in a 240D. MB only claims about 85MPH for the four speed version, less for the automatic.

The friend who purchased my '84 300D just got back into Dallas after driving it out to Arizona. He reported hitting 110MPH in far west Texas - a good place to do it. Again, this is faster than MB claims the car is capable - 105 is about it for 123 turbos.

I'm getting old and sedate; I can't remember ever having any of my diesels above 90MPH. In my defense I did bounce my late lamented Taurus SHO off the 7300RPM rev limiter in fourth gear a few times... (A pretty decent low buck sports sedan, btw.)

I'm embarrased to say that my wife has had our '98 E300 faster than I. She accidently hit 100MPH when pulling around some semi-trucks on the interstate. Yes, that car is fast enough that you can reach the century mark without intending to do so.
