Putting Diesel Engine into Gasser.......

Alright - I've got a potential new project on its way. Actually, a pair of projects. I'd like to pose some theorhetical questions at this time. In a couple of weeks, I may be dealing with hard reality.

Let's suppose that I have an '87 190D 2.5 Turbo car with a bad transmission and a pretty rough (rusty) body.

Let's also suppose that I have a very nice condition '93 190E with a bad engine but excellent body, interior, and transmission.

I'm thinking about putting the diesel engine, wiring harness, computer, and everything else that I can think of needed to make the diesel run, into the '93 chassis.

Issue #1 - have any of you guys done this type of swap?

What are all the obstacles I'll have to overcome? I've already contacted the Missouri Department of Revenue - they have a procedure which allows me to do what I want to, so the legal end is covered.

One of my concerns is the ignition switch/vacuum system. I haven't yet figured out how to make the gasser ignition switch work with the diesel engine. I assume that the gasser doesn't have any provision for shutting off the diesel engine via vacuum. I may have to swap part or all of the ignition lock mechanism.

I have considered the fuel tanks and lines. I'm not sure if the gassers use a different fuel line setup than the diesels. That wouldn't be too difficult of a swap.

I'm not sure how much of the wiring harness I'd need to swap. Should I take the fuse box, under-hood harness, and under-dash harness all from the diesel and swap it into the gasser body?

The exhaust is probably different, but should be a fairly easy swap.

Does anybody know if the diesel motor mounts will work in a gasser chassis?

Anybody have any other ideas about issues that I would have to address?

SteveM.
