It's a sign of pedigree, and brand awareness. The whole world knows what the three-pointed star represents.
BMW, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley are the only other cars that I can think of that also are "nameless." Even Ferrari has its name stamped on the rear -- but I think more for the "in your face" effect.
