I am trying to clean and/or replace the clear palstic that covers the shift pattern P-R-N-D-3-2.
I looked at step #3 in the IY article, but I can't figure out where to apply pressure to unclip the black cover.
Has anyone done this before and have suggestions? I don;t want to break any plastic parts.
Thanks in advance.

You 'may' have the 'black' pieces mixed up. Let me go from beginning. The first black piece the article refers to is simply the edging around the wood panel. then after removing the screw under cover and lifting up the wood, you will see the other 'black' piece which is in fact the shift patterner. IIRC it is held in by a 'press fit' ... I used a small screw driver and 'carefully' lifted it up on one side (you can see a joint line a 1/4" or 1/2" from top) and worked it lose...
good luck
