If the W116 shaft is the same as the W123, you might have to loosen the crimping nut and push the shaft forwards. It is a fairly large nut that tightens the rear half of the driveshaft to the front half. 2 channel lock pliers should do.

In the center of the driveshaft there is a part that goes about 1" into the flex joint.
