You have to learn to tow. If the strap touches the ground, you're doing something wrong, the rear car keeps it taut and does most of the braking, have to anticipate the front driver's movements.

After years of towing cars in my youth, my friends and I could always anticipate each other's moves and it always went smoothly, just did it a few days ago towing the Vanagon FrankenSyncro across town.
