To replace lower control arm, you will need a spring compressor. Unless you are SURE you need to replace bushings, what have you, don't worry about it. I am familiar with tie rod ends and steering knuckle [herein known as SK]. #1 Jack up front end, remove wheels, lower onto lower control arms supported by jack stands, there must be weight on them. #2 Unscrew SK arm from SK. (connects to lower arm) #3 Unscrew caliper from SK and hang on torsion bar with suitable hook. #4 remove front wheel hub. #5 Loosen hex nut on guide joint from SK by means of a tool. This can be a pickle fork, you will probably damage boot, or auto parts stores carry a ball joint remover, it's a pivot type thing, should not damage boot. #6 Loosen hex nut onsupporting joint. #7 Swing SK at top slightly outwards and force supporting joint from lower control arm by means of a tool [part # 116 589 09 33 00] ask Phil. #8 remove SK. #9 If required, unscrew cover plate from SK. #10 Check supporting joint in SK, [is it tight yet not binding]. #11 Check cover plate. #12 Attach SK to lower and upper control arms. ATTENTION! Keep cone of ball pins and seats in SK or lower control arm free of grease. Use new selflocking hex nuts. #13 If the ball pin on guide or supporting joint is turning when the hex nut is tightened insert spacing disc [I used an open end wrench you're looking for a 6mm thickness] and pull cone of ball pin into SK or lower control arm by tightening hex nut. Then lossen hex nut, remove spacer and torque down. #14 Install front wheel hub. #15 Adjust wheel bearing end play [PM me on that]. #16 Install caliper. ATTENTION! Do not twist brake hose and do not subject to tensile stresses. #17 Mount SK arm to SK with new self locking bolts. #18 Mount front wheel, lower vehicle. #19 Check wheel adjustment at front axle [PM me]. #20 Check adjustment of head lights. This is from service manual for a 123 cirica 1982. All []'s are mine. Hope this helps.
