Precaution? If something gets through the screen and it's not very tiny, it will lock up the oil pump.

Edited to add: Don't even consider trying to repair this. Pieces of the boot could get through the screen with the same effect. In case you're thinking the screen will save you, I've seen more than one with a hole worn through, due to debris that the screen initially kept out.
