You're right about the V6s.
Both my '98 E320 and my '02 C320 wagon accelerate like bats out of hell.
And they get 24 mpg (average city and highway) to boot!
By comparison the '91 300CE is not that fast off the line. And the best mileage I've been able to get out of it (so far) is 20 mpg combined.
