A safety inspection can run between $40 if nothing is wrong to $$$ if it needs major work. you need a safety inspection from BC,
Unfortunatly you will need to pay the provincal sales tax on the value stated at time of import. I hope that you do not have any problem registering the car in your jurisdiction.
I have already put a 300 SD engine into a 500 SEC, with a 4spd out of a 240D
Right now i am begining to put a OM603, 87 SDL engine into a 83 380 SEC.
Its rewarding but time consuming, usually everything bolts up, and wiring the diesel is simple enough,

Many yrs ago i colleged in TO and any used car need to be safety cert when change hands, I guess thats the same thing now.
Our predicament is a little different. A car that had been sitting here in van for 2 yrs after they paid for the at the customs, still need to go thru the safety and pay tax.
Another big issue is the car was orig sold for much higher than we're going to pay, so the tax will be assessed at the import price or what we pay now?
OT so you're dropping a 300SD engine into a 380 sec.
we have a 280se eng seized want to do the same thing too.
