The gearing for the 2.6 is different than the gearing for the 3.0. That mayl also give you problems.

Steve,
I never in my wildest dreams expected there were no changes over that time period. (Heck, I have a 1990 300E and there are marked differences between IT and the '89) I guess I should have asked the question differently so as not to draw fire for an obviously risky undertaking. (Actually, the swap was fairly uneventful except for accessing the transmission bolts and the cursed slip yoke in the driveshaft coming apart when the tranny shifted forward.) I might have gotten a better response with something like: "1993 190E, 2.6 starts well but dies instantly".
Anyway, the problem turned out to be the ICV. The one from the donor engine was stuck and the one from the removed engine works. Starts great, idles great and will squeal the tires on the first upshift. Runs lots better than the tired 3.0. Hopefully the different final drive ratio won't wreak havoc on the computer. So good so far though.
Chuck.
