As my understanding (may very well be wrong) but to achieve that sort of spread one needs to fiddle w/ the chains etc..thus an oil w/ a narrower gap will out last one w/o a wider gap.

Also, it would be wise to add zinc to your M1...they have greatly decreased the concentration of late and our cars (cams in particular) were designed w/ higher levels of zinc in mind.


MB never recomended or approved 0-40 for use in an M117.
Based on the engines I have taken apart where owners have stuck to MB's recommended weight along w/ a conservative oil change regime and the resulting Beautiful internals/bearings I'm likely to continue that trend.
