Ok, I did and read about it. I'm not in favor of sexual abstinence but a girl making the pledge to her father as if the father has some special claim on her sexuality seems to hint at a the psychic roots of the idea that women are property. One wonders if the logical extension of the practice is honor killings.
I don't think it would creep me out so much if it was a mother/daughter event.
