This is the first time I have tried to use the primer pump as this is the first time I have changed the filters (I've only put 1000 miles on it since I purchased it), so I don't know if it worked before. What was described above is what I was expecting, unscrew, pull out, push in, pull out push in, etc to pump it. But when I unscrew it it won't pull out, I haven't yanked on it too hard because I didn't want to bust it if I was doing it wrong. I'll try spraying it with PB Blaster and see if that helps. It would be nice to get the air purged out of the system. Thanks for the help.
