I could echo similar results with my dealings with Verizon.
Near the end of my escapade with DSL, and just prior to my going postal, they decided, without any request from me, to send me another complete modem and d/c power adaptor.
I never even considered attempting to return it. It's probably operating acceptably well for the fellow down in GA who bought it on e-bay for $18.
I figure it this way:
Verizon had consumed at least 25 hours of my time in troubleshooting and customer service for their horrific DSL system. The $18. paid me back for about 10 minutes of my time.
