Common thinking among the knuckle-dragging crowd. Manners usually indicate education, upper-middle class status and a lack of bar-fights past age 22.
Forming a proper argument consisting of valid premises leading to a solid conclusion takes effort. It is much easier to resort to ad-hominem attacks, straw-man fallacies and "begging the question." So, anything else is seen as "girlish" and so on, basically using another ad-hominem attack to deflect the lack of argument and hopefully put you on the defensive.
So, this is often the case...
Original argument takes place.
Uninformed poster goes on the attack, using logical falacies.
Falacy is rebuffed.
Ad-hominem attack is now used to redirect competely away from original argument.
As old as the hills and the internet is no different...
