Here's my take on it. The motor mounts in a W124, 300E also look difficult. Appears to be no room arount the mount. In short a pain in the ass. So on 2 different 300E's I simply paid my mechanic to do it. It wasn't bad time wise and I avoided all the aggravation.

Now I have a '97 S320. On this car there is room to spare. Straight 6 in that big engine compartment. I'm going to do them just to say I pulled it off.

If your car is as crammed in there as I think it is, then I would say punt and hire it done.
