Those big engines definitely require some muscle to start. You hope that they have decent compression and only require two or three pulls. If they fail to get spark and you try pulling them for 20 or 30 strokes, you'll feel like your arm is going to fall off.

My neighbor has an 8hp Tecumseh on a 48" mower and I'm really glad that it starts on the second pull.

Make sure it has a working choke........or you're doomed.
